The European Banking Federation on 5 July 2001 urged the European Commission not to accept any transitional period for abolishing the system of state guarantees for Germany's public sector banks. After a European Commission intervention Germany is due to present formal proposals for change by the end of September 2001 and remove the system by the end of March 2002. |
