The incoming Greek Presidency of the European Union has warned that Europe risks being left behind in the race to develop cutting edge technologies, many of which develop as a result of military projects, and the Presidency is pushing for an end to the ban that prevents the European Commission spending its annual €4.4 bn research budget on military research. The move towards more defence research is also part of the EU's drive to greater competitiveness. |
