Call for pan-European telecoms regulator

Europe's telecommunications industry was put on notice 16 November 2006 that it faced a sweeping overhaul to ensure competition and guarantee that entrenched monopolies open their broadband networks to rivals. Viviane Reding, European Union Telecoms Commissioner, called for the creation of a pan-European regulator to ensure consistency in the way market rules were applied across the union.
