The rise of far-right parties in Europe could be fuelled by new Brussels moves to centralise economic control, Charles McCreevy, an EU Finance Minister warned on 7 May 2002. Mr McCreevy, the Irish Finance Minister, and other European Finance Ministers reacted strongly to proposals from Pedro Solbes, European Commissioner for Monetary Affairs, for governments to share details of national budgets with other Member States before their own parliaments.
