China could play key role in EU rescue

Features report that China would very likely to contribute to the eurozone’s bail-out fund in the autumn of 2011 but the scope of its involvement would depend on European leaders satisfying some key conditions.

Any Chinese support would depend on contributions from other countries and Beijing must be given strong guarantees on the safety of its investment. China may also ask Europe to stop criticizing Beijing's monetary policy - and this could strain trans-Atlantic relations.
