Background and further information:

The inspection was related to concerns that several German car manufacturers may have violated EU antitrust rules that prohibit cartels and restrictive business practices. The Commission officials were accompanied by their counterparts from the German national competition authority.

The European Commission confirmed in October 2017 that its officials carried out unannounced inspections at the premises of car manufacturers in Germany.
