This Decision lays down rules concerning the management of Commission records and archives. It also concerns the preservation and opening to the public of the Commission's archives and the deposit of the Commission's historical archives at the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) at the European University Institute (EUI).

The Decision also repeals Commission Decision 2002/47/EC,ECSC and Commission Decision 2004/563/EC. It was adopted by the European Commission on 6 July 2020 and published in the Official Journal on 2 December 2021.
