The European Commissioner for Regional Policy expressed on 21 February 2017 her dissatisfaction with the poor performance of the Adriatic-Ionian Strategy's implementation.

The Commissioner argued that two years after its establishment neither major prohect had been realised nor significant economic results had been achieved compared with other macro-regional strategies.

She also added that no date regarding the second annual meeting of the members of the strategy had been announced yet.
