Commission Recommendation (EU) 2024/236 on means to address the impact of automation and digitalisation on the transport workforce

Recommendation (EU) 2024/236 - adopted by the European Commission on 29 November 2023 - suggesting measures to address the impact of automation and digitalisation on the transport workforce.

Further information:

The Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy set out a roadmap for a sustainable and digital future in the transport sector. However, the strategy also acknowledges that inherent changes create challenges and opportunities for the sector's workforce. This Recommendation seeks to raises awareness of those changes in the transport sector and invites relevant stakeholders to consider and promote different means to ensure a just transition for transport workers. It includes:

• raising awareness of the impact of automation and digitalisation;
• assessing skills needs and promoting training;
• improving working conditions, and recognising the important role of social dialogue in managing change and fostering workplace innovation;
• managing change in a proactive and participatory manner;
• making use of relevant funding opportunities to manage the transition, ensuring inclusiveness and accessibility for workers in all their diversity, in particular those at higher risk of exclusion.

The Recommendation was adopted by the European Commission on 29 November 2023 and published in the Official Journal on 16 January 2024.
