Further information:

This report is the European Commission's response to the Council conclusions from June 2021, which provided guidance for enhancing the European financial architecture for development (FEAD). Such conclusions invited the Commission to present a roadmap for the implementation of the objectives and recommendations contained in the conclusions, and to report annually on the progress achieved.

This roadmap for an improved financial architecture aims to broaden the impact, efficiency and visibility of the European financial architecture for development, by:

  • Affirming a strong EU policy steer;
  • Promoting enhanced coordination;
  • Building a more inclusive financial architecture;
  • Ensuring increased visibility and influence of the European Union (EU) and its Member States in a Team Europe approach.

It focuses on the actions which are in the remit of the Commission in cooperation with the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy. In addition, this report presents the state of implementation on these actions as of the end of 2021.
