The European Commission's Vice-President for Digital Economy address the Mobile World Congress on 28 February 2017.

The Commissioner argues for the fast deployment of 5G capabilities if the European Union wished to remain a credible force in the mobile market. He signalled fast movers would start 5G trials in selected areas in 2018, while coordinated commercial deployment of advanced 5G networks would kick off in 2020.
