Companies told to be active over EU laws

Peter Hain, the UK Foreign Office minister, told a private meeting of the Hundred Group of finance directors on 16 October 2001 to get more involved in the arguments for a more liberalised and deregulated European Union. He urged them to speak to their European colleagues about the importance of agreeing a takeovers directive, and to take their arguments to other companies to defeat unwanted directives.
