Date: 19/10/1995 “Atlas” on Monday (16 October). Van Miert was won over by key concessions from the two firms and their national governments to open their alternative network markets from July next year and leave their low-level data services subsidiaries out of the venture until 1998. US long-distance operator Sprint Corp welcomed the announcement and hoped its joint venture with “Atlas”, to be dubbed “Phoenix”, will be up and running within six months. Van Miert will ask the college of Commissioners to back the “Atlas” venture at their 31 October meeting. |
