Abstract:

This book aims to provide an introductory-level text to the subject of competition law. It is designed to enable students to place the subject in the context of the relationship between the United Kingdom and European Community regimes, and to understand the areas that complement each other and those which present tensions between them. It covers the law in this area as at 1 May 2002 and includes an appendix which deals with the effects of the Enterprise Bill 2002 on the current UK system.

Features of the work include:

  • Full commentary on the Competition Act 1998, including relevant secondary legislation and subsequent case law;
  • Updated discussion of recent changes and developments including the Enterprise Bill 2002, the EC Vertical and Horizontal Restraints Guidelines, and reform programmes in the EC and UK;
  • Explanation of relevant economic principles;
  • Discussion of globalisation issues and the law of the United States;
  • Coverage of new cases, including Napp and World Snooker.

Mark Furse was formerly Reader in Law at the University of Westminster. He is currently a freelance consultant and researcher in competition law.
