Competition law of the UK & EC:

In the United Kingdom there are two systems of competition law: domestic law and the law of the European Union. Following the passage of the Competition Act of 1998, the domestic law has been strengthened and brought into much closer alignment with EU law. An examination of both regimes provides the basis of this book. The new UK law, which will come fully into force on 1 March 2000, is dealt with alongside the older rules that will then be replaced. The text introduces readers to the basic economic principles underpinning the law; the regulatory agencies; theories and practice of enforcement and the substantive rules relating to agreements, monopolies and mergers. Common law rules are dealt with to the extent that they remain relevant. The conclusion examines the increasing problems of globalisation.

The book is aimed at those studying and researching competition law and is not intended to be a practitioner text.
