Summary: Set of conclusions adopted by the Council of the European Union in June 2020 concerning the impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic on the sports sector and its path to recovery. Further information: These conclusions recommend that Member States, the European Commission and sport stakeholders an approach on how to address the pandemic in the recovery stage. They invite Member States to promote the potential for support through EU programmes, funds and initiatives. The Commission is urged to reflect on more flexibility mechanisms into future funding programmes in the field of sport. Stakeholders within sports sector are invited to follow the guidelines from relevant international bodies and national authorities, regarding the prevention and spreading of the virus, and explore possible solutions for the update of sport calendars. The set of conclusions were adopted by the Council on 22 June 2020. |
