Cost worries put Galileo satellite plan in doubt

Six countries, including Britain, Germany and the Netherlands, decided on 7 December 2001 to oppose the release of €450m to fund the development phase of the satellite navigation project, Galileo. The money would have been matched by an equivalent amount from the European Space Agency.
