The Council of the EU, on 27 May 2010, announced the decision to request a scientific investigation into the health and social risks of the synthetic drug mephedrone. The decision to undertake this risk assessment was based largely on the findings of a Europol–EMCDDA joint report on mephedrone, submitted in late March 2010 to the Council of the EU, the European Commission and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). |
