Decision (CFSP) 2021/1143 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 12 July 2021 - establishing a European Union (EU) Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique).
The EUTM Mozambique aims at the training and supporting of Mozambican armed forces in protected civilian population and restoring safety and security in the country's Cabo Delgado province. The mandate lasts initially for two years. The strategic objective is to support the capacity building of the units of the Mozambican armed forces that are to become part of a future Quick Reaction Force.
This Decision is the response to the request submitted by the Mozambican authorities for reinforced engagement in the areas of peace and security. On 3 June 2021, the country's President welcomed the deployment of an EU military training non-executive CSDP mission in the territory. This mission is one of the tools in the EU's Integrated Approach to the crisis in Cabo Delgado. It was adopted by the Council of the European Union at a meeting on 12 July 2021.
