Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/1093 - adopted by the Council of the European Union on 30 June 2022 - establishing an assistance measure in the framework of the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support the Armed Forces of Moldova.
The European Peace Facility (EPF) is an off-budget instrument aimed at enhancing the European Union's ability to prevent conflicts, build peace and strengthen international security. It enables the financing of operational actions under the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) that have military or defence implications.
In a letter sent in April 2022, the Moldovan authorities requested the EU to support national armed forces. The overall objective of this Decision is to contribute to strengthening their capacities in order to enhance national security, stability and resilience in the defence sector. The Assistance Measure aims to allow Armed Forces of Moldova to enhance operational effectiveness, accelerate compliance with EU standards and interoperability, and thereby better protect civilians in crises and emergencies. It also aims to strengthen Moldova's capacities with regard to its participation in EU military CSDP missions and operations as well as in other multinational operations.
This Decision builds upon Council Decision (CFSP) 2021/2136, which already provides support to strengthen the capacities of Moldova's Armed Forces. It was adopted by the Council of the European Union 30 June 2022 and published in the Official Journal on 1 July 2022.
