Council Recommendation on the mobility of young volunteers across the European Union

Recommendation adopted by the Council of the European Union on 20 November 2008, concerning the mobility of young volunteers across the European Union (EU).

This Recommendation sets up a system of cooperation for Member States of the EU designed to encourage cross-border voluntary activities for young people. Each country's own national volunteering scheme is respected and safeguarded.

It seeks to encourage Member States to promote the international mobility of young volunteers. It also urges EU countries to strengthen cooperation among voluntary organisations and public authorities involved in organising voluntary activities, in order to promote the mobility of young volunteers throughout the European Union. The recommendation endorses European Commission support for relevant EU countries’ actions.

The Council Recommendation was adopted by the Council of the European Union on 20 November 2008 and published in the Official Journal on 13 December 2008.
