Council Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91 - adopted in June 1991 - which defines how agricultural products and food that are designated as organic products need to be grown to be labelled as such.

Further information:

This Regulation applies to the following products, where such products bear (or intend to) indications referring to organic production methods:

  • Unprocessed agricultural crop products, also animals and unprocessed animal products;
  • Products intended for human consumption composed essentially of one or more ingredients of plant origin; in addition, upon adoption of the provisions concerning livestock production referred to above, products intended for human consumption containing ingredients of animal origin.
