The European Union (EU) introducing in 2022 a temporary emergency regulation to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy sources. Council Regulation (EU) 2022/2577 was adopted to address an energy supply crisis in a difficult geopolitical context. Faster deployment of renewables was considered necessary to strengthen the EU's security of supply and lower energy prices.

This Act extends the application of some of the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2022/2578, which would otherwise cease to apply later in 2024.

The draft law was adopted by the European Commission on 28 November 2023. The Council of the European Union adopted the Regulation on 22 December 2023, which was published in the Official Journal on 10 January 2024.
