Counter-terrorism post still vacant

The European Union has yet, May 2007, to appoint a counter-terrorism co-ordinator two months after the resignation of the previous holder of the post. No deadline exists to find a successor to Gijs de Vries, a Dutch former deputy interior minister, who had done the job since it was created in the wake of the Madrid bombings in 2004.
