Court opinion is blow to retiring age hopes

Report of the Opinion of the Advocate General in ECJ C-411/05 Félix Palacios de la Villa v Cortefiel Servicios SA, which has raised the issue of whether a EU Member State should be precluded from having a law that allows compulsory retirement clauses. A similar UK case brough by Heyday, suuported by Age Concern, is also pending in the European Court of Justice.
