Dancing with the bear: Macron in China

French President Emmanuel Macron visited China on a state visit from -10 January 2018. In this Commentary feature the author suggested that in different ways, Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping exemplify the rise of individual authority and personal aura over party politics.
