The leader of Denmark's People's Party Kristian Thulesen Dahl defended in April 2016 that Danish citizens should follow the British example and get a referendum on the country's membership in the European Union.

Regardless of the result of the referendum in the United Kingdom, there could be an impact in Denmark regarding its own position within the EU - either by pushing for a similar renegotiation to the one achieved by Britain or a referendum on membership.

The People's Party is not against Denmark's EU membership, but it is critical of its interference in national matters.
