On the 8 December 2016, a package of infringement decisions was released. The European Commission pursued legal action against Member States for failing to comply with their obligations under EU law

The key decisions taken by the European Commission cover various sectors and include 7 letters of formal notice, 77 reasoned opinions, 3 referrals to the Court of Justice of the European Union, and 4 closures. The Commission also closed 67 cases in which the issues with the Member States concerned have been solved without the Commission needing to pursue the procedure further.
