Carmakers were rebuffed in their efforts to roll back planned restrictions on carbon dioxide emissions after a surprise vote on the 25 September 2008 by the European Parliament’s Environmental Committee. European car makers face tough new targets for cutting carbon emissions after MEPs rejected industry pleas for more time to produce greener cars.
