Directive (EU) 2022/2561 - formally adopted by the co-legislators on 14 December 2022 - concerning the initial qualification and periodic training of drivers of certain road vehicles for the carriage of goods or passengers. This is a text with EEA relevance.
This Directive applies to the activity of driving carried out by nationals of a Member State, and national of third countries who are employed or used by an undertaking established in a Member State, engaged in road transport within the European Union (EU), on roads open to the public and using vehicles requiring certain driving licences as defined in Directive 2006/123/EC or equivalent.
The Act undertakes a codification of Directive 2003/59/EC. It supersedes the various acts incorporated in it. It fully preserves the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bring them together with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself. The draft law was tabled by the European Commission on 1 February 2021. The co-legislators formally endorsed it on 14 December 2022. The Act was published in the Official Journal on 23 December 2022.
