Summary:

The House of Commons pubished in July 2018 its first interim report relating to its committee inquiry on disinformation and 'fake news'. The document warns that manipulation of personal data and targeting pernicious views to users - particularly during elections and referenda - were leading to a democratic crisis. The Committee outlined a series of recommendations to tackle the problem of disinformation and fake news facing the whole world.

Further information:

Arron Banks - a businessman who strongly backed and funded the unofficial Leave.EU campaign - was criticised by the Committee for misleading information on his business dealings with Russia and for failing to demonstrate the source of the money used to support the campaign.

This particular report was leaked days before its official release by Dominic Cummings - the campaign director of the Vote Leave campaign - who showed his disgust at the committee's 'dishonesty'.
