Document: Presidency Conclusions, European Council, Laeken, 14 and 15 December 2001

The European Council met in Laeken on 14-15 December 2001 with the future of the Union on the top of the agenda. Issues dicussed included the transition to the euro, enlargement, the European security and defence policy, the EU's response to terrorism, the European Social model, sustainable development, the area of freedom, security and justice and the location of a number of EU agencies.
