Does Russia’s gas deal with China change things for the EU?

Russia and China signed a multi-billion dollar, 30-year gas deal on the 21 May 2014. The deal between Russia's Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) had been 10 years in the making.

The deal had proved increasingly important for Russia as it sought to shift its away from relying on European demand for its energy exports.
