Book abstract:

The third edition of this title is published at a time of uncertainty for European economies linked as they are to the United States' economy, suffering from the effect of 9-11. In particular, the editor is optimistic that the strengths of the German economy will mean that any domestic stagnation of the economy is only temporary. Following on from the second edition of this publication, produced shortly after Gerhard Schröder took up office, the first part of this book serves as a mid-term report examining whether the coalition of SPD and Green Parties have achieved any of the social and fiscal reforms they promised. Part 1 also discusses such issues as the modernisation of eastern Germany, trends and developments in German-British business, structural funding and trends in Germany's foreign trade. Part 2 gives further background to business in Germany exploring as it does the structure and practices of German business. The subsequent three parts offer technical guidance on the key elements of setting up and managing business operations in Germany. Parts three and four focus on Banking Financial Services, Accounting and Taxation Issues whilst the legal aspects of doing business in Germany are covered in part five. The directory of information sources accompanying the second edition is updated in the five Appendices. The book will interest all those currently doing, or planning to establish business in Germany.
