The Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) agreed on the 3 January 2012 on a new distribution of responsibilities among its members. The ECB named Balgian Peter Praet as its new chief economist. Germany's choice for this role Jörg Asmussen was instead to head the bank's legal department and to be responsible for International and European Relations.
