The Dutch Parliament on 2 June 2005 proposed new referendums to tackle issues of public concern highlighted by the rejection on 1 June of the European Union Constitutional Treaty. The 150-seat Lower House of Parliament, 85 per cent of whose members had backed the treaty, met in an emergency session to debate the lessons from the No vote.
