The new Dutch government will invest heavily in improving life for families and the less well-off and will allow asylum seekers to stay in the Netherlands in proposals unveiled February 2007, after coalition negotiatons following the general election in November 2006. This policy approach suggests a softening of approach by prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende’s fourth administration in five years.
