Duty-free’s departure leaves rough seas for ferry groups

Conventional car carriers in Europe are being forced to expand into freight or to cut costs in order to survive. Since the abolition of duty-free sales on internal EU journeys, tourist trips on short Channel crossings such as Dover to Calais have fallen by 29%.
