In recent years important steps forward have been undertaken in the development of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) in order to develop the policy,legal and financial support instruments in the field of asylum. In the second phase of the CEAS, the EU instruments provide the legal basis for greater harmonisation and set higher quality standards thereby ensuring uniform statuses, high common conditions of protection and common features in asylum procedures for those in need of international protection.
