Book abstract:

This book has been compiled to provide students on EC Law courses with ready access to EC statutes relevant to their courses, including sections with primary legislation, secondary legislation and UK legislation. The book has been updated to include developments such as the Treaties of Nice and Amsterdam as well as the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The competition section includes new legislation on vertical agreements and the Design Directive and Copyright Directive have been added to the Industrial / Intellectual Property Section.

The first part, Primary Legislation, provides a consolidated version of the Treaty establishing the European Community as amended by the Treaty of Amsterdam as well as key articles of the Treaty of Nice and the main chapters of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. A wealth of secondary legislation is offered in the second part, which is subdivided into categories such as competition, horizontal co-operation agreements, vertical agreements and block exemptions, mergers and joint ventures, consumer protection, free movement of goods, free movement of persons, industrial / intellectual property, and social policy. Part 3 on UK legislation reproduces relevant parts of the European Communities Act 1972 and the European Communities (Amendment) Act 1993.

Law students will find this book a valuable reference tool for tracking down the important statutes of European law.

Sarah Gale is Lecturer in Law at City University, London.
