Understanding the complexities of the legal and judicial processes of the European Union and tracing the relevant sources can themselves be difficult enough tasks for the information professional, but further confusion often arises from enquirers who misunderstand the remit and constitution of other institutions such as the European Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice. This issue's column will seek to clarify the differences between these bodies and the Court of Justice of the European Communities as well as examine the electronic resources which can be used to track down basic information about them, together with the texts of their judgments and decisions.
