Sweeping change at the top of the European Central Bank moveed a step closer in the first week of October 2011 week when Jean-Claude Trichet, President, chaired his last interest-rate setting meeting on the 6 October 2011.

Italy’s Mario Draghi, was due to take over as ECB President on 1 November 2011.
