ECB rejects pressure for reduction in interest rate

At a meeting on 25 October 2001 the Governing Council of the European Central Bank resisted pressure to reduce interest rates despite rapid deterioration in euro-zone growth prospects following the terrorist attacks in the US on 11 September 2001.
