Economic indicators:
1998 Broad Economic Policy Guidelines. The Commission has adopted a recommendation for the 1998 Broad Economic Policy Guidelines for the EU and the Member States. The two main priorities are to ensure a high level of employment and a successful economic and monetary union. The Commission highlights the need for stability-oriented monetary policies, sustained efforts to achieve and maintain sound public finances and appropriate wage developments achieved through strengthened social dialogue.
