Globalisation triggers protectionist reactions. In the current discussion about economic patriotism in Europe industrial policy and protectionist arguments are commingled. Economic patriotism arises also as a reaction to growing economic interdependence. National industrial policy cannot be viewed in isolation any more but has to be seen in a global context.

This study aims to provide an overview of the subject of industrial policy in the context of the current debate about economic patriotism.
