Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council, 17-18 May 2021

Summary:

A meeting of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sports (EYCS) Council was held on 17-18 May 2021. The agenda included the following items:

• Adoption of conclusions on equity and inclusion in education and training;
• Adoption of conclusions on the European Universities initiative;
• Policy debate on the future of higher education and on role of its institutions as drivers of change towards the digital and green transitions;
• Adoption of conclusions on role of multi-level governance in promoting participation of young people in decision-making processes;
• Debate on youth policy and how to empower young people to defend their rights;
• Briefing by the Council Presidency on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on education and training and on youth;
• Presentation by the Slovenian Council Presidency of its work programme in relevant areas;
• Adoption of conclusions on recovery, resilience and sustainability of the cultural and creative sectors;
• Adoption of conclusions on the European Commission's Media and Audiovisual Action Plan (MAAP);
• Discussion on the protection of European cultural heritage;
• Adoption of conclusions on sport innovation;
• Discussion on the way forward in the development of an EU sport diplomacy strategy;
• Briefing by the Council Presidency on the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on sport;
• Briefing by different national delegations on a number of relevant matters relating to culture, media and sport.
