Migration has been a key issue in European affairs and media throughout 2016. Civil society has played a major role in supporting public authorities, which otherwise would have been unable to cope with the sheer number of migrants and refugees reaching Europe. The European Economic and Social Committee decided to recognise civil society's vital contribution in this area by awarding its Civil Society Prize 2016 to the most outstanding examples of solidarity in the reception and social integration of refugees and migrants.

This brochure showcases and pays tribute to the five winning projects. Additionally, it provides background information about the Civil Society Prize in general and about the EESC's extensive work towards a pan-European migration and asylum policy.
