Experts on the Scientific Panel on Biological Hazards (BIOHAZ) of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) said in an opinion, published on 9 November 2009, that further research was needed on breeding programmes in goats for genetic resistance to Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) (including Classical scrapie, Atypical scrapie and BSE).
