The European Parliament's plenary session approved on 24 November 2016 a resolution on the political situation in Belarus.

MEPs described the country's progress in upholding democratic vales as 'insufficient' and highlighted the continuous imprisionment of political activists and the harassment towards the opposition, besides the capital punishment which was still a reality.

The resolution also shows concerns over safety around the country's first nuclear power plant, in Ostrovets.
