EU ambassador quits after telling Turks to be more like Germans

The European Union’s ambassador to Turkey, Hansjörg Haber, resigned in June 2016 following his remarks criticising the Turks for their handling of a deal to tackle the refugee crisis, and telling them they should be more like Germans.

Mr Haber had appointed less than a year before. These remarks happened as the agreement between Turkey and the European Union on dealing with refugees and migrants trying to come into Europe could collapse.
